1. Java

Java is a high level programming language that was invented in 1991 by James Gosling. It is both an interpreted and a compiled language, and object-oriented. Even though it has been over 30 years since Java was launched, they keep up to date, and are still one of the most popular programming languages (IBM, n.d.). One important product made with Java is Spotify.

2. JavaScript

JavaScript is not to be mistaken for Java, they have very different syntax and use. JavaScript is an interpreted language, and is a so-called multi-paradigm which includes both functional programming and object-oriented programming (MDN Contributors, 2022). It was created by Brendan Eich in 1995, and JavaScript 1.0 was released the year after (Refsnes Data, n.d.). One of the products created with JavaScript is Netflix.

3. Python

Python is an interpreted programming language that was invented in 1990 by Guido van Rossum and is, as JavaScript, a multi-paradigm that can use both functional programming and object-oriented programming (ACG Technical Editors Team, 2022). It is named after Monty Python, and is one of the most used programming languages (Root, 2020). One of the products that are written in Python is YouTube.

4. Swift

Swift was introduced in 2014 by Apple, and was developed by Chris Lattner. In 2015 it was turned into an open sourced language, and in 2019 Swift 5.0 was released. It is a compiled programming language, made for iOS, macOS and other Apple-products (AltexSoft, 2021). Swift also belongs to a multi-paradigm, consisting of functional programming, object-oriented programming and generic programming (Conkin, n.d.). One product that is created with Swift is LinkedIn.

5. C#

C# is an interpreted, object-oriented programming language made by Anders Hejlsberg in Microsoft in 2000. The language keeps up to date, and in 2022 it was ranked number four in the PYPL Popularity of Programming Language Index (Pluralsight, 2022). The original name of C# was COOL, but due to laws they had to change the name. An example of a product written in C# is Microsoft Visual Studio (Pluralsight, 2022).
